One of the best-regarded expert negotiators in the resources
and construction industries, Geoffrey has helped some of Australia’s
leading companies to achieve business success.
An accredited arbitrator, mediator and adjudicator, and a teacher
of negotiating skills, Geoffrey’s early professional career
was as a litigation partner with a Melbourne law firm. He joined
resources giant Rio Tinto as corporate counsel, then company secretary
with Bougainville Copper Limited in Papua New Guinea before moving
to the roles Minerals Council of Australia assistant director
and as a general manager with the Gladstone Power Station, then
to Comalco’s general manager of external affairs.
Geoffrey was retained as advisor to Tarong Energy on securing
an option to buy a 7mtpa coal mine, advised a professional services
firm on resolution of intra-practice disputes, and was instrumental
in brokering an Australia-wide agreement on intellectual property
among government agencies.
Holding a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne,
a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries, and a member
of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia, Geoffrey
also serves as a director of Museum and Gallery Services Queensland
and is an executive councillor of the Queensland branch of the
Australian Institute for International Affairs.
